What is the best/fastest wifi router to buy?

  • I'm heading out to college next semester, and I think the dorm I'm staying at only has an Ethernet connection. So what is the best and fastest wifi router I could get that doesn't cost an insane amount of money. Something that can download fast and connect me to Xbox live to stream movies and have 4 bar connection. Any suggestions?

    Get an 802.11n router, but you may want to look at a dual band router in case not all your devices support the n standard and you also need to connect g deices in the 2.4 GHz band.

The average one you can buy off the shelf at walmart or similar stores will do you just fine. You should ask the college if they allow wireless routers to be hooked up. Many do not.

Dont connect a router to that Ethernet port as im sure its already connected to a Router... you will need an Access Point... and if you need the extra ports get an Access Point with ethernet ports. Router to Router will not work with out the 2nd router being dumb down to just a wireless switch. So really you should be looking for an Access Point... and also the speed you require is ISP bandwidth not Local Lan which the router only supports.
