What computer out of these, is best for a college student?

What is the best laptop computer for a college student?

  • I'm going away to college next year, and the monetary gifts I get at my open house will go towards a laptop for me. I've been looking at a little bit of everything, and I just can't decide what's best. Right now, I'm looking at Mac Books, but I'm open to anything. Assuming that money isn't a real huge issue and I don't do any hard-core gaming, which laptop would best suit an incoming college freshman?

  • Answer:

get an Asus laptop. they have the lowest failure rate of any laptop and great software that comes included. Macbooks are a rip off--its really just looking cool and the glowing apple you pay for. look for the following in the laptop: Intel core processor i5 (moderate speed (great for all tasks except hardcore gaming) i7 is for gaming at lest 4gb memory -- try to go for 6 ( has to do with speed) go for a 500 GB hard drive. ample room for all your files lol don't get a Mac its all marketing. for 1,500 same *** Mac-- you could get a top of the line Asus with i7, 12 gb memory and 1000gb hard drive. get an Asus they are the best -- I have owned three with no problems (sold the last 2)

A dell Inspiron would be best, as it is a lot cheaper than a Mac book pro, plus most models have windows 7, which from your question detail, will suit you. Look at all the models, the dell website will let you customize it too. Another laptop worth looking at, is a vaio, a bit more expensive p, but worth it as fast, and cheaper than a Mac book, it has Windows's 7, again look at all the models available

I would just NOT say hp. I got mine freshmen year, crashed the beginning of junior, right after the warranty ended.

I know most people are going to reccommend the laptop minis (netbooks) but there are 3 disadvantages. First, they have no CD drive, and although they do make usb ones, they arent cheap. Next, they are just as much as a decent full sized which i find easier to type on than a tiny one. Finally they just don't seem to have the processing power you would need for reports and such when using MS WORD, or PowerPoint, or Excel, etc. I would reccommend a 15inch (or 13-17inch range) compaq presario laptop using windows 7 ultimate. I had both a desktop presario, and a laptop model a900. They both were amazing, and handled like a new car would with windows 7 ultimate. As far as pricing goes, its been a few years so you may have to look in to it. Again its a suggestion. You can also look into some dells, a toshiba satellite also should suffice. As far as macs go, im not a big mac person but i must give them 3 points for being fast, having good programs associated with them, and having a very tiny amount of virus's designed for them. (id still reccomend antivirus software such as avg). Hope this helps
