How to make a homemade hard cover book?

How do I make a book cover on my computer?

  • I am writing a book and I want to make a cover for it, how would I do that, is it possible? I didn't want to draw the cover because the rest of the book is typed up? Thanks?

  • Answer:

If you want a simple print cover and are using a program like Word that has a book-fold option: you can simply insert a graphic as the first page of the document and print it out that way. If you are doing it this way, make sure you test print the first few pages to make sure the graphic isn't going off the page or pushing the text off of it. Book-fold printing needs you to have a duplex printer or know which orientation to flip the paper when you run it through the printer to print the opposite side of the paper. To use the book-fold layout simply go to page layout>page setup>margins>pages>multiple pages>book fold. Note: the "sheets per booklet" option, when set to "four" means that a booklet will be a single sheet of paper, but have four "pages" printed one after the other. When set to other numbers, the sheets will lay one on top of the other and then be folded all at once. Because I'm not a professional, I tend to make my books by printing four pages per booklet, folding the pages, and squeezing the folded edges together and gluing them with multiple layers of generic liquid glue (you can use hot glue or anything that would hold them bound together, but I have found that the student type liquid glue turns out the best).
