Is there any way to get FOX channels outside the US?

Get extra channels without box?

  • We have Comcast, with either the digital starter or preferred, I don't recall at the moment. I can't afford renting another box, so I'd like to know if there's a way to just use the TV, or to use a solution that I make a one-time payment on. The tv is a 42" Sharp Aquos. I only get a few channels, around up to 20. I can get some of the core networks (Fox, CBS, ABC, NBC) in 720i and 1080i, but that's after tuning to channels like 115.4, 78.3, numbers like that. On our main box, we get tons of channels, as well as the music channels. I'm not looking to get every channel, just History, Cartoon Network, Comedy Central and Nick. I'm not looking for judgement here, just suggestions. Thanks.

  • Answer:

Unfortunately the cable companies have started to encrypt cable stations. These include anything that isn't a local broadcast station. This means if you want Cartoon Network, you need a cable box. For each TV. Just like in the early 80s. Yes, this was despite the huge hoopla about getting the cable companies to buy into the new digital broadcasting format which delayed HDTVs for over a decade. Welcome to "progress."
