Is Portland a good place to live in?

Is Portland Oregon a good place to live?

• I'm 15 my sister is 19, and my dad is 44 (felt like putting it) but is it a good place to live? Trying to find a big city to live in that isn't that high in crime, as in we won't walk out our door wearing the wrong colors and be found dead I don't want that, is this a good place to live?

  Yeah, Portland is a nice place to live. It's not too big, but has plenty to offer. There is crime if you live in poorer sections of the city, but I don't think it's crazy dangerous. Don't live in Gresham or Troutdale. A lot of southeast is pretty nice, but there are some slums there, too. Lots of bad areas in north Portland, though there are some nice places there now. A home on any of the hills is bound to be a lovely place. Then there are nice outskirts in Clackamas like Happy Valley, Pleasant Vally. Oregon City is marginal...some say it's horrible, others like its small-town feel. Lake Oswego is expensive but very nice. Same with West Linn. West Hill homes are nice, but expensive. There are many different races in the Portland area. People seem to accept others wherever you are. I don't know that much about crime as I lived in a nice area. Avoid 82nd, avoid most of outer southeast, avoid Gresham, Rockwood, Troutdale, and be wary of north Portland. Also don't live near the Lloyd Center. I like the weather there, but some don't. It rains very lightly much of the year, and when it isn't doing that, it's overcast. The summers are beautiful, however. And spring days when the sun comes out, it's like a beautiful, life-giving miracle that is truly unbelievable. There are nature parks within the city and nice areas further out, such as the Columbia River Gorge, the Oregon Coast, Mt. Hood and the desert east of the Cascades. Portland is an awesome place to live.
