  • i am doing a biology assignment and need to choose an organism (animal, plant, fungi) that has played a significant role in human medicine, agriculture, culture or society. as i am interested in medicines/drugs, i wanted to choose a plant/fungi. however we were given a list of what we could choose as our topic. the only plants/fungi that had medicinal purposes on it were opium, marijuana and penicillin. at first i was going to choose opium but someone else already said they wanted to do it so i didnt have anything. my teacher (thankfully) allowed me to choose another plant or fungi that has played a significant role in human medicine and has paved the way for a/many life saving, useful drugs used today or throughout history. is there any other plants/fungi that have played a significant role in ancient/modern human medicine and are generally well-known that has enough history, uses, etc so that i can write a 5-8 minute assignment on it? ps. sorry i couldnt word this any better, the assignment is a bit hard to explain. any plants that are used in major drugs would be appreciated ;) !!!!!!!
