What's the deal with oil pulling?
-
I've been doing it with olive oil. Does olive oil work well for oil pulling? What are the benefits of oil pulling? Is it really effective for cleaning the teeth? Will it prevent cavities or help remineralize teeth?
-
Answer:
I did a small bit of research on it for a case study. It will pull some things off your teeth but not enough to prevent cavities. Remineralization happens with calcium and fluoride compounds. Oil pulling will not prevent cavities nor remineralize. It is suppose to whiten slightly. Tea tree oil is suppose to prevent gingivitis. Sesame oil is best for whitening. I suggest brushing with a soft toothbrush and using a fluoridated toothpaste. Don't forget to floss!
