Some good universities for computer science?

What are good computer science California State Universities?

  • I'm majoring in computer programming and have Cal Poly as well as UCLA and UCSD in mind. I'm aware that they are all fairly competitive, especially the UC's and that is why I want back ups. My GPA is 3.7 as of now. So for now at least, my choices aren't too restricted based on that. Another factor is that a current teacher of mine put in my head that UC's focus more on research rather than teaching students. Unsure whether that is true but either way I'm curious to know of CSU's that are somewhat known for their computer programming or computer science programs in general. Any time I try looking it up, I always receive UC's. Any help or suggestions?

  • Answer:

there are two cal poly's which one? The CS program at cal poly pomona is ok, but the one in san luis obispo is better. With CSU's you will get to talk to professors more often since they teach the class. UC's not so much unless you are a grad student. most of the time you talk to a Student assistent who is getting their Doctorates. have you also considered Computer engineering and information systems? both are similar to CS. both have programing but the approach is different. for information Systems(may be under the name CIS or MIS) it is more based towards business software development/telecommunications . the computer engineering is based towards computer design, but you do code. computer science is in the middle of both extremes
