What is an assistance unit?

I'm in need of knowledge about moving out. I want to know about help, assistance programs, and ideas.?

  • See, I am 18, and moving two and a half hours away from where I'm living now. I am planning on leasing an apartment for four months. I then will move into a dorm at my college for Fall semester. I will have a little over 2000$ for this. I will have my own furniture I can bring too. I am currenlty trying to line a job up for when I get there, but It would be easier if I was there already. I am wondering, since I am a little sunk on cash, if there are maybe temporary assistance programs for this sort of thing? What do you think will be expenses for food and gas? I would be driving maybe a little above average, or average. I eat about normal for one person. I have some knowledge about renting a unit, but is there anything I should know? Can someone give me a monthly (and maybe 4 month) cost estimate for a single person living in a little less then 600$ unit, eats about the normal amount daily, and drives about average daily?

  • Answer:

what the heck is the normal amount of food that one person eats? i know people who eat about half an apple a day or equivalent of another food to people who eat nonstop all the time! wouldn't you be beter off staying where you are for the next four months and work there while saving more money then moving directly into the dorm and then finding a job that suites your school schedule.

There are no assistance programs. Leasing an apartment for 4 months is going to be expensive. I would estimate that you need more than $2000 for this. I don't know where you're moving to but I have never lived in an apartment that costs less than $600 per month. Have you thought about expenses for electricity, heat and hot water, laundry, telephone, or cable, etc. Renting is expensive. Most apartments come with a 12 month lease. Some have 3 or 6 month options but you always pay more per month than you would with a 12 month lease. You will have to pay more than normal to rent for 4 months. Finding a job is not going to be easy due to the unemployment rate. You might not be able to afford the move. You should think of a backup plan.
