Can you replace just the electric pump on a 2002 chevy cavalier fuel pump?

How much would it cost to replace a fuel pump on a 2002 Chevy Blazer?

  • My car is still starting, but its getting to the point in which it is starting to have trouble turning over. I don'tt know alot of how to mechanic a car, so Im wondering on my make and model, roughly how much it would cost to have a mechanic replace it.

  • Answer:

Labor prices vary quite a bit across the country as well as withing cities. Figure on around $200-300 for labor alone, since the tank will need to be removed if the fuel pump needs to be replaced. For the most accurate quote you'll need to call local shops in your area. BTW: It's always better to let the shop diagnose the problem and let them tell you what is wrong. If you tell them to do something and they just do it, that may not fix the problem but you'll still have to pay for the work done.

First off, have you eliminated all other possibilities? Like fuel filter? Change the Plugs and wires, and the coil packs. Also if available to you check the compression. (if high miles) Low compression can cause hard starting, and when started an warmed up it may run fine. As the heat causes expansion which creates better compression. A garage may do this fairly cheap. The fuel pump though to have someone do it. Your probably looking at 2 to 500.00 depending on area. Neg with the garage, a lot of times if they say 400.00 an you ask can you do it for 350.00 they'll work with you "helps to say if you can help me out on this I'll be sure to bring it back if I have another problem". Just dont' have one thing replaced if your not sure that is the problem Those above are a good place to start. Also a bad fuel line, and fuel rail can cause a problem They can also do a test to check the fuel pressure. I think you should be able to have a garage do a few tests like compresion, fuel pressure, and check the plugs and wires. This will cost you about 75.00 depending. Which is better than 2,000 in repairs replacing things you think might need replaced that dont. Good luck
