Duplicate drivers license question?
-
I'm 17 and recently my wallet with my drivers license in it was stolen out of my room by god knows who in my house. it also had my school ids and some money in it. Ive asked around but I want to be 100% sure before i go to the DMV. Am i allowed to get a DUPLICATE drivers license to replace mine without my parents needing to be there or having to have their consent? Im only 17 but im asking because im trying to get a car from someone at the moment and i cant get it until i get my licenses again so i need to be sure because i dont want to go up there just to be turned down especially when im missing a lot of my ids that were in my wallet that was taken out of my room. I dont know who took it but i know my sisters and parents have keys to my room for god knows what reason but they steal crap from my room constantly. Again the question is: Can i get a duplicate drivers license to replace my license without parental consent or them having to be there? since im only 17 i live in Illinois by the way.

Answer:
My dear, if you have any questions about the DMV procedures in your state all you must do is place a phone call to the DMV office and ask of them what you desire to know. Yes, it is that simple. When you need shoes you go to a shoe store. Right? Same with automobile licensing issues. You go or call the DMV. They know all of the rules. Now, about your personal items security issue. I have lived in many homes and I have yet to see individual rooms with locks on the door. If you have a lock on the door to your room then only you should have a key to the room if that is your desire. You can also buy a small safe for the room so you can place valuables inside protected by a combination. You could also install a separate key for the closet and keep that locked with the only key available to you. The first line of defense is the door to your room. Procure a new lock or have a locksmith install one for the door and a separate one for the closet. Nothing like dual levels of protection. Sorry your family steals from you. Take positive steps and have the locks installed for your peace of mind. Best wishes.
