How did you choose what career to pursue?

What kind of career should I pursue? Please help- I need to choose a major?

• I like helping people, psychology, sociology, and painting/drawing. I love computers, but I don't want to deal with the math involved in a computer science/computer engineering program. I like the idea of working in human services, but am turned off by the dismally low salary (even to those who have a Master's in the field!). I don't really like dealing with people, but I feel that's something I can overcome. I'm more of a writer and listener and less of a talker, so something that deals with a lot of conversing probably won't be a good idea. I don't need to be rich, but I live in NYC so I need to pursue something where I won't end up in debt all my life and/or homeless. I need to decide on a major (liberal arts is NOT for me-- it's too broad, and I need something more focused/specific) and I feel that if I had an idea of what careers I'd enjoy, it'd make choosing something easier.   Art therapy? You will need a Master's though. The employment rate for Art Therapy grads is pretty good. As for your Undergraduate work, you'll probably need a BA in Art or Psychology. Research Art Therapy Master's programs to learn about their application requirements. DO NOT GO TO any sort of for profit college, even if they are regionally accredited!!!!!!! Nothing wrong with starting off at a Community College too! It's a great way to try out fields that sound interesting. Some statistics say that students who start at a community college and transfer to a traditional "4 year" college have higher odds of completing their Bachelor's degree!! Plus, the tuition savings at a Community College cannot be beat! Good luck to you!!
