What can a volunteer do in a First Aid Hospital?

Good idea to work for both CVS and Rite Aid as a Pharmacy Technician?

  • I'm just completing my first year of undergrad in pre-pharmacy. I was recently offered a job as a pharmacy technician from both my local CVS and Rite Aid. I've never had a job before, just a bunch of volunteer work. After the interviews and everything, I love both pharmacy managers and pharmacists who work at both places, and cannot choose to save my life between either of them. Rite Aid is offering me evening shifts 4:30-9pm for 2-3 days a week (10-15 hrs a week), and to work maybe one weekend per month (ANY weekend of my choice). CVS, schedule is unsure but most likely it will be the morning/early afternoon shift and they would like me to work 1 to 2 weekends per month (10-20 hrs per week). The schedule may vary, but I could probably let them know I have another part-time job in the evenings since the schedule for Rite Aid is pretty much set (just evening shifts), although which days of the week I'll be working will vary. So it all boils down to, how can I let CVS know I cannot work on evenings without letting them know I will be working at Rite Aid? It was not easy to persuade how them how much I needed this experience. I won't be doing much this summer besides studying for the PCAT so I thought I'd work as much as possible. I'm a very productive and good at time management type of person. I want to work in the pharmacy as much as possible to get lots of experience. In your opinion and previous cumulative job experience, would working 25-40 hrs per week as a pharmacy technician be too much for me this summer if I have nothing but PCAT to study for (I plan on spending 1 to 3 hrs per day reviewing for the PCAT I'll be taking this July)? Also, Rite Aid is allowing me to work any weekend (maybe once per month) this fall while I'm at my second year or undergrad of my choice, or whenever I want to. CVS wants me to work every possily other weekend Friday evening, Sat, and maybe Sun for this fall while I'm at college. My university is only about 50 min away from both places and from where I live. So my question is, do you think it will be too much to work for both places (I really want to work for both and I have nothing else to do this summer besides to prepare for the PCAT, a roughly estimate of 1 to 2 hrs per day on average spent on that, and exercising maybe 4 times a week for an hr), and how can I let CVS know I cannot work on evenings without letting them know I will be working at Rite Aid (just in case they ask me why I cannot, I'm not sure if they are allowed to)? This will be my very first job. I've only done volunteer work in the past. Thank you so much for taking your time to respond!

  • Answer:

You should not work for competitors! If one finds out that you are working for the other...you will get fired. So, the best plan of action is just to chose which is best for YOU. If you want a second job, get one doing something else...but not at the competition!

Rite Aid is quite possibly the worst pharmacy chain in the history of the world. Accept the job at CVS and let them know that you are willing to fill in for people who call out, etc to get more hours.
