Xbox360 updates won't stop?

I had my xbox Christmas time, black and shiny, no glitches, I got an xbox live account too, updates started coming and wouldn't stop, so I couldn't sign in to xbox live. But now, it loads/updates so far, then the xbox restarts and tells me I need to start downloading updates, AGAIN! Why is this happening, can I stop it, all I want is to play online with my friends! Not to try to download a million updates that won't work!

Answer:
If you keep updating, it might work. If that doesn't work I'd leave a message with @xboxsupport on twitter or call Xbox support at 1-800-MYXBOX (1-800-699-269). They will give you instructions.
