How do I connect my Blu Ray player to my wireless Internet?

How do I connect my Sony Blu-Ray player to DSL Internet?

  • I'm an admitted novice here... I have a Cisco 2100 Cable Modem that only has one Ethernet outlet. I'd really like to connect my Sony Blu-Ray player (it is NOT equipped with WiFi) to the Internet so that I can watch Netflix on my television. I simply have no clue how to go about this. Do I need a network router, Ethernet splitter, coaxial splitter, a different modem?!? Very, very confused! Any help would be awesomely appreciated!

  • Answer:

What do you have connected to the cable modem now? If you have a computer that's connected via Ethernet to the cable modem, you'll need to buy a router so that you can share the Internet connection between the devices. The router will come with a quick setup guide, but basically you'll connect the Ethernet cable from the cable modem to the WAN (Internet) port on the router and then connect your wired devices via Ethernet to the LAN ports on the router. If you don't have any wireless devices, you'll want to make sure you either go into the router's settings and disable the wireless radio or change the SSID (wireless network name) and set up encryption and a password so that no one else can borrow/steal your Internet connection. NOTE: Don't use WEP encryption as it's the oldest of the technologies and is easily cracked.
