What is it like being a police officer?

  • Is it exciting? What do you do?

  • Answer:

Lots of training. Long hours. Low pay. Immense headaches. Ungrateful public. 90% boredom, and 10% sheer terror. Many cops become suicidal. Most cops end up divorced, at least once. Many become alcoholics. You get very little time off. You work weekends and holidays. You spend a lot of time in court. You're verbally abused. You're physically attacked. You get shot at. People try to stab you. You can be beaten by mobs. I've had my bones broken. I've had many sutures. Generally, I'm glad it's all over. I did 23 years. That was enough for me. It aint what Hollywood portrays, trust me.

It can be exciting and it can be boring. A police officer arrests criminals, prevents crime, protects life and property, keeps order, and investigates criminal matters. There are numerous other functions for a police officer but those are some of the main ones.

you harrass people for about 10 hours a day. when you see a real crime happening, you ignore it. that about sums it up...

It is a great job if you stay pro active. If you just sit around waiting for someone to send calls, then yes really boring. Visit my blog for more insight about being a Police Officer and make sure you join the blog to stay up to date on the new blog entries.
