How do i get a picture by my name on this. Thanks?

How can I get my friend to use the correct gender pronouns and name for me?

  • I recently came out to a few of my friends at school about me being FTM trans. One of my friends who I told seems to really not like it. I told her to refer to me as my new name (which is Fletcher) and she flat out refuses to call me that. I drew a picture for her of her and her other friend and I signed it as 'Fletch' and she erased it and wrote my old name on there. I was really, really offended, but I didn't say anything. When we talk, she refers to me as a girl. When I try to correct you she says "But you are a girl!" or "You're not a real guy yet". I get really upset, and I almost cry ( Yeah, I'm a sensitive, emotional douche) but I never say anything. Am I being overly sensitive? Should I not worry about? Or should I keep correcting her and how should I go about doing it? English is not my first language so if anything sounds funny, I'm sorry. Thanks for the help in advance!

  • Answer:

She's being rude to you, continue to correct her, and tell her that by not respecting your gender identity, and the name for that gender she is being rude, disrespectful, and offensive, and that since you identify as a guy she needs to respect that, and ignore the people that say your gender is female because you body is, you are the gender you mentally identify yourself as, maybe you should try to educate her more about what being transsexual/transgender really means

Tell her straight out that she is being offensive. If that doesn't work, and she still refuses to call you by your real name, I don't see any reason to be friends with her.

You could either 1.) Tell her she's being very offensive and tell her if she does not stop you will no longer be friends with her. 2.) Educate her 3.) Only respond to her when she uses your chosen name and preferred pronouns 4.) Use the "Male version" of her name and male pronouns to refer to her. Two can play at the mis-gendering game. And ignore Dakota, they obviously have absolutely no idea what they're talking about.

Since you're still a girl for now, your proper gender IS a girl. It's incorrect to say "No, I'm a boy." until you do get a sex-change. It's also incorrect to say "My name is Fletcher." until your legal name is Fletcher. I think it's too over-the-top to change your name; especially while in high school. My answer to the question "how can I get my friend to use the correct gender pronouns and name for me?" is, your friend is currently using the correct gender pronouns and name for you.
