Buy or Rent - Apartment in London?
-
Hi. I Get a job transfer to London in July, I'm thinking to buy a small flat in London. Is possible I buy an apartment in London with £60.000.00 ? And, what size and (rental value) (approximately) ? Need not be near the center. Do you think that is better I pay rent or buy ? My salary should be approximately £600 per week. It is a good salary in London ? I'm single. I hope your help. Thank you.

Answer:
£60,000.00 is nowhere near enough for an apartment anywhere in London - however, it is a deposit and the rest you pay off on a mortgage. Look at it like this, if you get a mortgage on a small apartment with a deposit of £60,000.00 you could easily double your money in only a few short years. Take my house as an example. Purchase price 15 years ago + £116,000.00 - price today £480,000.00. Cannot say better than that. If you rent, you get nothing back. http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&safe=off&sclient=psy-ab&q=apartments+in+london+for+sale&oq=aparmtnents+in+london+&aq=1l&aqi=g-l4&aql=&gs_nf=1&gs_l=hp.1.1.0i13l4.1921.8281.0.12066.26.24.2.0.0.1.455.2873.15j8j4-1.28.0.4tRvJFZFDdQ&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=2eb548b7ec688333&biw=1600&bih=767

You won't even be able to buy a broom cupboard or a garage in London for £60k. You'd be better off renting, probably in the outskirts, and getting the tube train into town.

£600 a week, IF after taxes is a medium-good salary. I am afraid, as all others have said, with £60,000 you can buy a small box garage in the outskirts of London. You don' t say where in London you are going to work, however if you want to live in central London, I am afraid you won't be able not even renting a flat.... You will need to share with others in order to afford the rent, or just rent a room. If you are a young person this will be the solution, sharing with flatmates has got its positive sides, especially if you are new to London. Just google and see, this is just an example http://www.findaproperty.com/ to have an idea. Try this also and see http://www.spareroom.co.uk/

£600 a week is around £31,000 a year which is an ok salary for a secretary etc. I would not expect to be able to afford anything for £60k to buy so you are going to have to rent. You can buy a garage in Bayswater for £55,000 so it gives you an idea of house prices in London! http://www.findaproperty.com/for-sale/property-2413923 I live in a house in the suburbs with no tube stations near and 30 minutes into central London, our neighbours have a 1 bed flat and they bought it for £120,000.

You can't buy a home for 60,000 quid in London. Nowhere near enough money.
