I'm going to London and seeing some of the "must see"things but what are some other things that should be seen?
-
I'm going to see Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Piccadilly Circus...but I'm looking for other things that aren't as well known but still definitely worth the trip. Any suggestions of places/things that I should see ? Also, any good restaurants that I should visit?

Answer:
If you're going in the summer make sure to see Stonehenge, and also Hampton Palace that is about 1 hour or less outside of London. Look for Indian restaurants that are plentiful and delicious in London. If you don't have a lot of time in the city, I suggest you check out this article on yahoo voices, it has good tips on places to see in a hurry. http://voices.yahoo.com/seeing-london-less-than-24-hours-11174526.html?cat=8

Get a boat from Charing Cross to Greenwich, Greenwich (home of Greenwich mean time) has a beautiful park with views over London and Greenwich itself has great pubs on the river and a ship called the Cutty Sark, from Greenwich get the docklands train back to the city, this journey goes through a skyscraper district called Canary Wharf, it's a cool journey. Hampstead Heath is beautiful as well. the museums and art galleries are great as well, Tate Modern, British Museum and Science Museum spring to mind. Give the London Eye a go as well. How about this restaurant? http://www.danslenoir.com/london/ Enjoy!

When going to see Buckingham Palace instead of going straight up the Mall go into St James Park which runs beside the road and meander your way to the palace that way. Round the far left hand side of the palace is the Queens Gallery and at the entrance just inside ( free , if you dont want to pay for the gallery ) is a souvenir shop with some really good quality souvenirs. Interesting cafe/ restaurant is in the crypt of St Martins in the Field , the big church on one corner of Trafalgar Sq, Food average but interesting place to eat. Nice little souvenir shop too . Free classical concerts here from time to time. Opposite, across the street, is the National Portrait Gallery. Free and worth a visit. PS Do not bother with a long trip to Stonehenge. Much better ways of spending your time.

If you are thinking of the restaurants, I would definitely suggest Borough Market, near London Bridge Station. It is advisable to go there before lunch time as it is very very popular with locals and tourists. It is a farmers market with a twist. Most of the stools sell different varieties of hot food, like paella, burgers, fish and chips, risotto, pies, melted cheese and potatoes and etc - all home made and very nice. Then they have home made ciders, imported rare wines, cheeses, olives not to mention the cakes and sweets! My favourite for example is an oyster stool, they have good variety of shells and sauces. I go to see them every weekend! :)
