Can LVNs work in Labor & Delivery?

DOES PREGNANT "GIRL ON TOP" WORK FOR LABOR AND DELIVERY?

  • I was told by a close friend who is also a mother that starting at my 7th month (which is where I am) lots of girl-on-top sex is very useful during pregnancy because it stretches the vagina enough to avoid complications at labor... Is this true??

  • Answer:

No. Usually 'girl on top' sex is a necessity to get around your growing bump, but no penis will stretch your vagina in preparation for having an entire person pass through there. 60% of births are accompanied by some form of perineal trauma, regardless of what preparations you were doing at home. Before and during labour, listen to your doctor/midwife about pushing and stopping, and maybe try perineal massage to help prevent a tear. If you tear, you tear, stitches heal relatively quickly. While they're uncomfortable and painful for a few days, and need a little more care than without a tear, it's common and you'll be given clear instructions on how to keep it clean until it heals.

Hello, No.Walking during labour and not giving birth flat on your back all help with the birth process. Also a gentle, slow birth, not pushing too hard as the head crowns, allowing time for the perineum to stretch.Warm olive oil and hot flannels applied during stretching help a lot, plus massage of that area. You can even do it yourself. A good site to look at is:Unassisted Childbirth. Good Luck.x
