How do I go about volunteering at Planned Parenthood?

How long to wait to go back to planned parenthood?

  • I just went to planned parenthood 2 days ago and got birth control pills. I know I should've thought about this beforehand, but now I would actually rather have Mirena. Should I stay on bc pills for a month before going back? Longer? Or can I go back like next week? I guess I'm asking how long do you recommend I wait, or is there a limit to how many contraceptives I can get from there within a time frame? I know I should have thought about that before, and I know you may not agree with my choices on going to planned parenthood, but please just answer the question.

  • Answer:

If you've never had a child before, you can probably forget about getting an IUD of either kind. Most doctors are quite reluctant to give them to women who've never had a baby, especially if they are minors. There is a higher risk of complications that can affect your health and fertility. If you have had a child, the IUD and insertion is a lot more expensive than birth control pills. I don't think they really care how often you come in.

I think you can go back whenever. I have the Mirena IUD and if you haven't had a baby I wouldn't recommend it. I got it when I was 15 to control my periods (before you say that's young I tried 3 different strength pills that didn't work, my periods literally lasted months making my iron levels extremely low) but a year on it's only just started to be beneficial to me. It was extremely painful to get in (apparently the nurse is supposed to give you anaesthetic first but she never told me), very common to have pregnancy symptoms, e.g. sickness, tiredness, breast tenderness etc, effective birth control but still. Maybe more hassle than benefit, I don't know, it's up to you.
