How do I become an animal rescuer?

How can I become an Animal Rescuer?

  • I want to help animals in need. Like animals that lost their parents and need to be bottle fed. Or injured animals that need time to recover before finding a home. Even wild animals in need. I don't have it in me to go to school for zoology or to become a vet. What I want to do is take in animals and take them to the vet as needed. The vet would be able to give me instructions to care for sick animals at home. My question is... how can I set this up and be approved as an animal rescuer? I don't live in an area where kennels or vets pay for care providers in their place. I want this to be a hobby. Not a job.

  • Answer:

Start with contacting a no kill shelter in your area, they often have a need for foster homes.

What you want is to become a Wildlife Rehabilitator. Unfortunately, there are three things wrong with what you're going for right now. One, it is illegal to harbor most wild animals, orphaned, injured, or no, without an official rehabilitator's license. Two, you cannot be approved for a license without a college degree in zoology or vet science or sonmething like that. Three, you can't expect the vet to be there or know exactly what to do to save that animal. You need to know what to do yourself, or else you'll kill whatever it is you're trying to save. You can't expect to go anywhere in life without knowledge, and the best knowledge out there comes from - that's right - COLLEGE.
