Why is DNS Server not responding?

DNS Server not responding?

  • Everytime I start using the computer, this happens to me. It takes about 5-10 minutes of waiting for it to fix. I have tried changing my DNS several times. I have tried my ISP's, Google's, and Open DNS but the same problem exists. I also tried Google Namebench and I used the servers there. Although the internet got faster, the DNS would stop responding for 5-10 minutes after I got back on. Is this a problem with my router? What should I do? I am not very tech savvy.

  • Answer:

Specify the DNS IP address set in you computer. = On the PC: Click [Start] - Click [Run...] - enter: cmd [ENTER] - At the prompt (c:\.....>) enter: ipconfig /all [ENTER] - Note DNS servers.

This does not sound like a DNS issue to me. Just to make sure, I configured my PC to use the google dns servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) and it is working reliably. It sounds like something on your computer, perhaps malware may be interfering with these settings. Assuming that you are using Windows, I would recommend doing a complete malware/virus scan and making sure your antivirus scanner is up to date. If you don't have an antivirus scanner installed, there are a number of free ones available: Microsoft Security Essentials AVG Avast I will be posting an article soon on general PC maintenance, you can look me up on yahoo voices if you're interested.
