Why is my gateway computer screen completely black even though the computer turns on nothing shows up?

my computer screen went completely black, even though it turns on it stays black. and i am wondering if it has something to do with the white tape like thing that is inside of the computer on top of where the hard drive would go

Who put the tape there? Did you ask around the house to notify them of the issue? Maybe someone put the tape there in an attempt to secure a connection. Check if your monitor is on also.
