Is this a good laptop to play sims 3 on?

I think I have the right laptop requirements to play The Sims 3 yet it still doesnt work! Why?

  • I have a ASUS X5DC Laptop Here is some of the technical details: Latest windows 7 Home Premium 15.6 inch screen 3GB RAM 250GB hard drive Intel Celeron D220 CPU Wifi I bought 'The Sims 3' 2 days ago and installed it on my laptop today. It starts up fine but as soon as I click on 'create a sim' the loading page loads for about 5 minutes then goes off and a message comes up saying 'The Sims 3 has stopped working'. Also, the graphics look rubbish when it shows the town from above. It also moves a bit slow when clicking on things. The music still plays fine in the background. I havent actually played on the game yet, I only get up to 'create a sim' and it goes off! I have uninstalled it then re-installed it already, no change. I think I have the requirements to play this game on my laptop right? Any suggestions to WHY it wont let me play the game properly? Please help, I hope that my 30 pound hasn't gone to waste! Plus I was looking forward to playing on this game for the first time in years. Thanks

Do you have a dedicated graphics card? If your graphics card is integrated, then it's probably not capable on handling the game. Based on the specs you listed, I think you have an integrated card. There is no sense in upgrading your computer in my opinion, as David said, your processor is lacking as well. You're better off to buy a new one if you really want to play this game.

It's both your CPU and seemingly your GPU (graphic card) Your computer's speed is 1.6 Ghz something, meaning that it is excruciatingly slow, for the sim requires < 2.2-2.3 Ghz, if I remember correctly. The graphic (town) looks rubbish because your graphic card might be not able to satisfy what the game need.

Sadly you can't change the graphics to another one for laptops. You can with desktops. If you really want to push forward, call around pc/laptop shops and see if they have any experiences upgrading. Note: Its not common for pc/laptop technicians to upgrade graphic cards, then its harder to find the single graphic card hardware to switch out your old one. If its too much trouble, sell your current one and get one with a better card.
