What do I do if USB ports don't recognize devices?

My Toshiba laptop does not recognize any device in any USB Ports....any suggestions ?

  • USB Ports are not working. When my camera, Kindle, iPhone, wireless mouse or anything is plugged in, a message shows that one or more devices have failed... please check device. All the devices DO work... it has to be the ports. Any suggestions ?

  • Answer:

Another thing might be is the drivers for the USB are not installed properly. Usually this can be fixed by updating the systems drivers. For intel> called inf install chipset For amd> chipset the guy above me has good advice. It is advisable but if none of your usbs are not working then the HUB will not work either, it will just supply power but no data and you will be in the same boat. you acn help us by giving us the make and model of your computer and we can look up which chipset it is using and direct you to the drivers page.

Not necessarily, it can be a power issue? USB ports by nature are power hungry drawing on power from internal resourcesespecially if you have port multiplyers (or non self powered hubs), A reasonably cheap out is to buy a self power USB hub, so the hub plugs into the AC relieves the strain on internal rsources, and you only use one USB port, or it is a driver issue. for under $100 you can solve the problem, if all ports fail at once you have over taxed you internal resources
