What is a good computer for online college courses?

I am currently enrolled for online college courses and I was wondering what would be the best computer for it. I am also into online gaming so I want a computer that can handle online gaming with minimum lag. I currently am using an emachine e627 and its ok for browsing the internet and writing papers but it cant handle games that well at all.
