Baird 42'' LCD TV No picture or sound?
-
Hello, I have a 42'' Baird TV, I have just come home and switched it on as always for the 6 'o' clock news, the TV loaded up and the TV worked fine. I went into the kitchen to pour a glass of wine, I then suddenly noticed it was very quite, But when i looked at the TV the standby light was still green, to indicate the TV was on, But no picture nor sound! When i turn it off the standby light goes red to indicate the TV is in standby mode, And when i turn it on the light goes green, But no picture nor sound! I am at a loss as the TV was working fine and then just went off! Yikes!!! Ideas would be great as i don't have a lot of money and i am not technically minded... Does anyone know of this fault or an ''easy fix'' <Joke... But does anyone have an idea so if i need to call someone out they can not fob me off with a real expensive part... Thank you in advance... The TV responds to remote commands and commands from the side Panel. But sadly no sound or picture... Please help, I'm skint as skint gets! Last thing i need! :( Thanks Lee

Answer:
Forget about replacing capacitors. That's just somebody guessing. You may as well "replace all the resistors" or anything else. Repairing a television is a workshop job. You need the technical documentation and appropriate test equipment, tools and knowledge; and you still won't be sure that it would continue to work for long anyway. When a television like this goes faulty several faults can follow each other in quick succession. That's the penalty that you suffer for buying a cheap "brand". They are not economically repairable Two things you can try: Check the remote control and press the button for Digital input. Someone may have set the tv to expect an analogue signal from the aerial while you were pouring your wine. Because the analogue tv signal has been switched off the tv won't be receiving anything off-air. It will need setting back to digital to receive Freeview. OR The television set may be dropping itself into "AV" mode and is expecting an input through a SCART or HDMI socket. Sometimes an external device (video or DVD player) will hijack the television if the set-up hs been configured for this. Try unplugging all external devices (Sky box, DVD, VCR, games console or whatever you have plugged in). Make sure that the telly is configured to digital input and tuned to BBC1. Then see if the it will show the programme. If the television is actually broke then you should return it if it's still under guarantee. Even if it's only a few months out of guarantee you are entitled to ask for a contribution to repair under the Sale of Goods Act. Otherwise you should just take it to your local recycling centre and have done with it. Stop drinking wine for a while and save up for a new tv. Other "brands" to avoid are Alba, Bush, Goodmans, Tecknica, Celcus, Tevion, M&S, and any other 'supermarket own brand'. These are just assembled in sheds where they take the cheapest components and stick a label on. They're not built by "proper" tv manufacturers. Even if you're short of money you should save up a bit longer for a proper brand like Panasonic, Sony, Sharp, Philips, LG or Samsung. Buy a smaller screen if you have to, but never buy a cheap "brand".

Find someone to change all the electrolytic capacitors in the power supply and inverter boards and if that doesn't fix it, you are out of luck. These caps are the only easily replaced items at little cost and 90 percent of LCDs problems are the caps.
