Why do people go out?

Why do people from small towns for the most part, refuse to ever go out of town to make friends or have fun?

  • Ever since I moved to a small town, I've done my best to turn the locals on to places outside of here. A friend of mine owns a restaurant in a major city which is only about an hour away. When I ask these people if they ever go to the city for dinner or fun, they look at me in confusion. LOL Its pretty pathetic to be honest. I ask them where they go and they really can't name a place downtown in the city. If they do say the go there once in a while, its to see a sporting event or concert. They don't know the local places in the city at all which considering that the city is only an hour away, its pretty surprising that they have so much ignorance to the places in the city that are really fun to go to. For me, there is no action in this small town I moved to. I gladly get in my car and drive to the city as much as I can. The choices of dining out and the neighborhoods that are in the city, really hold a lot of great places to see and enjoy. I don't get why these people that grew up in this area, refuse to go to the city. And if they do, its only once in a rare while to see a concert, or take in a baseball game. Where I am from, we would explore all over. We would jump in our cars and drive to different areas of the city and its metropolitan area. That is what we did, and we still enjoy doing it. We not only had friends in the suburb that we lived in, but we also had friends that we would meet up with when we went to the city itself. But people in the small town that I currently live in, all their friends have pretty much grown up with them. They went to high school with them, and so forth. Their parents hung out together growing up as well. But where I come from, if we don't have friends from different places, you are considered strange. But small town people? They think that if you have friends from other places, or especially if you go out of town to have fun, to them thats out of the ordinary. Why?

  • Answer:

Country and rural people are different from city people. They have "fun" in a different way. They obviously dont like city ways, and thats ok. If they wanted a city life and city fun they would move there. They think its too confusing, loud, and generaly obnoxious. It sounds like you should live the city life, as it seems you find small town folks backwards and boring. Some people are just cityfolk, and thats ok too. I have lived both lives, about 20 years each. I have now moved back to a rural town on a quiet lot, but I am only about 30 miles from a large city. That works out for me. With the price of gas these days, I stay home often or go explore the hills, canyons and streams around my home on one of my atv's . I save up all my city chores and desires and maybe go once every two weeks now. I usualy hit one of my favorite restaurants while Im there and do my costco and other city store shopping that day.
