Can I become a resident in Mississippi if I am still a dependent of my mother who resides in Florida?
-
I am turning 20 this year and plan on moving to MS for school in August. I will be in school there for at least two or three more years. I know this year I pay out-of-state tuition, but if I live there a whole year will I be able to be considered a resident for in-state tuition if I can provide bills from August 2012 - August 2013 at a MS residency?

Answer:
For a real answer, if you live off campus, maintain employment, and file your taxes in Mississippi for the 2012 year, you will be eligible for Mississippi residency. If school is all you do in the state, you will not be considered a resident. I hope this helps.

You're old enough to legally move away. The real question is: Who's footing the bill for the tuition? If it's you, cut the apron strings and get on with your life.
