How to open .csv files?

How to open CSV files with 3 million rows?

  • I have csv files with 3 million rows in them, but excel either can't open them at all, or truncates them to about 1 million rows. Is there a workaround for this, or another program to use? I am using excel 2010 on a windows computer with 16GB ram. Thanks

  • Answer:

Try using Microsoft Access instead. A database should be able to open files of this size.

Change the filename to have at TXT extension and then open in Word. Be sure to save as a TXT file when you save. The file if 3 million rows is too large for Notepad that is limited to files smaller than 54k according to Microsoft. Wordpad might be able to handle the file as it is reported to be able to handle files over 16MB, which for a txt file is quite large. A database should be able to handle a file of this size with ease.

right click on the file, choose "Rename" add ".txt" at the end of the file so it will become text file so you can open it with Notepad, instead of Excel. See if the data is visible or not.If it's encrypted then there is no way workaround.
