Where can I buy a step up/down converter?

Can I use a step up converter to use a 220 dryer on a 110 outlet?

  • I'm moving to an apartment that doesn't have washer/dryer hookups, and I just want to able to use my stackable washer/dryer (just the dryer) with a regular 110 outlet. After doing a little research, I found that the dryer uses 4.5 KW, which is 4500 watts(?) Apparently I can buy a "step up" converter to use for what I want to do. What do you think?

  • Answer:

At 110 volts the dryer would need 40 amps. A standard 110v outlet is 15 amps.
