Is it unhealthy to be awake all night?

Why do i feel like i am awake all night?

  • I am active and healthy and have a regular sleeping pattern, but my night sleep is completely unrefreshing. Firstly i feel like i wake up after every dream, and then usually roll around trying to get back to sleep. Even when im dreaming i feel like im still half awake. I would say that i wake up around 7-8 times during the night(i tried to count) but its hard to tell because i constantly feel like part of me is asleep and part of me is awake during the night. It wouldnt bother me; but i feel so worn out during the day. I can't think properly and my muscles feel like they are about to give way. Does anyone experience the same or knows what it may be?

  • Answer:

Hi John Take these two tests: 1. Berlin Questionnaire, 2. Epworth Sleepiness Scale (google them). Failing one or both, take the results to your doctor to be assessed further for a sleep disorder. You should be asked about your family history concerning sleep disorders; witnessed snoring and stoppage of breathing; awakening to headaches, dry mouth, gasping, gasping; high blood pressure; diabetes; heart problems; gastric reflux; and whatever else he can throw in. Seems like your sleep cycle is being interrupted in REM stage of sleep. This could be done by any number of reasons that I cannot discern from your statements. However, your daytime sleepiness is a indicator of a sleep disorder.
