Do I need to remove wisdom teeth?

Is it compulsory to remove wisdom teeth? Need advice!?

  • I want to get them removed but unsure. Is it painful? I've seen there are two options- by anesthetic or operation where u sleep. Which is better? I'm a strong girl but in terms of teeth I'm a bit of a chicken :) Anyone with experience or have any info please feel free to share. Thanks!

NO... You may not want them to use the drug Versed ( Midazolam ) for the procedure. In fact, many people who use Versed for " IV Sedation,Conscious Sedation" during a procedure are awake for the entire procedure but remember nothing, often believing they were "out" the whole time. Versed (Midazolam) is an amnestic. It is also commonly used for minor procedures like colonoscopies dental procedures like extractions, conscious sedation, twilight sleep, so that patients won't remember pain and discomfort.HOWEVER THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THOSE SENSATIONS WILL NOT BE EXPERIENCED!!!!Forgetting does no mean it did not happen!! Here is a note from a Dentist Who uses Versed I've used Versed 1000+ times during oral surgery procedures and I've never had a complaint. It's a miracle drug because it is safe and it causes you to not remember an unpleasant experience. My answer to him is isn't it better to have not experienced the pain than to have forgot it. No wonder you have had no complaints they have no memory of the procedure. Arnie G.

It depends on the position of the teeth, how much ( if at all) they are bothering, how much ( again if at all) they are protruding through the gums. Whether or not they 're casuing damage being in there. My bottom ones need to come out as my bottom jaw is too crowded as the wisdom teeth are growing horizontal. My top wisdom teeth came through, and cracked my back molars, resulting in the molars having to be removed, and the wisdom teeth taking their place. If the wisdom tooth is under the surface, usually a general anesthetic is better, as they REALLY need to get in there, if you know what I mean. For a tooth that is fully erupted and away from the nerve, a local should suffice, other than a bit of discomfort, is much better. Really, it's a decision needed to be made in conjunction and consultation with your dentist, appropriate to your teeth :)

Not every wisdom tooth needs to be extracted. In a small minority of patients, there is adequate room for the wisdom teeth to fit normally in the mouth. Most people, though, need to have them removed. The best place to have this done is in an oral surgeon's office and I would recommend that you have anesthetic that will "put you to sleep.". Good luck!

Compulsory? It depends on how your teeth are coming in, and how much you want to live with it. Mine were coming in sideways. No way to keep them. Somebody else might just need to have them re-aligned, I supposed. It doesn't hurt, it's not a bother, and take the doctor's advice. I was fine within a day or two of the surgery. Just slept it off, got the pillow cases a little bloody.
