What can I do with a business degree?

What can I do with a business administration degree?

  • I'm lost. I have no idea what I want out of my life. Im 22 and I'll get getting my AA over the summer. I have a job that doesn't pay much and I can't afford to live on my own. I REALLY want to do something with my life. I love business, entrepreneurship, marketing, taking risks, doing things my way, etc. I also love fitness, anything outside in the sun, sports, anything competitive, etc. Would business administration be a good degree for me? What jobs can come from it? I don't want to go to school for 4 years just to end up with a degree where all I can get is a $10/hr office job. Help?

  • Answer:

An AA in Business is almost worthless. You really have two choices: You can commit to college, which means two full-time years (~four semesters) in some marketable trade (which may be Business) or You can start an apprenticeship in some decent trade (usually four years). (Apprenticeship is best, but there are other qualifications and certifications available) If you don't do one of these two things, your life looks like a string of low-pay jobs and layoffs — until you die.

Yes! And, if you enjoy it and it is more financially available, think about an MBA. Be the manager of a large sporting goods store. Open your own business that sells golfing equipment. Market fitness equipment to companies that own gyms. Marketing and Business are a winning combination. As more "baby boomers" retire, they'll play golf, tennis, get out on the water and more. Be there to be their connection to their many years of retirement.

Yeah, so go major in business admin. At least you try to get a higher paying job with that degree. This is a risk to take because if you work hard, you could make more money and potentially move up the ladder. Business degree can teach you a lot, if you learn, apply and remember. And, stop being so "glass half empty" because it certainly sounds like that when you started thinking about ending up with a $10/hr eventhough you have a 4 year degree. Grow some confidence and think with wisdom.
