How many GCSE's do you need to get into university?

Can I get to university without my A-levels?

  • I'm currently doing my AS levels in school and I've just realised I've messed up BIG and I don't think I'm going to pass. I've already done some modular exams and came out with U's and my coursework is only half complete and needs to be sent off today, so I'm expecting to maybe pass one or two with D's possibly. The university i want to apply to says that i need '2 A levels plus 5 GCSEs (A-C), or equivalent qualifications, or relevant professional experience/experiential learning, or a combination of formal qualifications and experiential learning. Applications must be supported by a portfolio of photography work.' I have 9 GCSES 1 A, 7 B's, 1 C and I'm doing a photojournalism internship this summer. Do you think it's likely that I will be able to get into university with just this? I was planning on doing my A2 but if I fail my AS levels then I'm not sure if there's much point.

  • Answer:

Sorry, but it seems unlikely. Most universities do not accept AS Level, as it is not a full A-Level and doesn't give you anything. Universities want AS and A2 too, as it gives you the whole A-Level. If you think you're going to fall still try your best, you never know until you try and you can always re-take your AS level in January. If they are too hard you can do a BTEC or an Access course, which are just as good and counted by the universities.
