What's the point of a minor in college?
-
From what I understand a minor DOES NOT qualify you for anything. Why would you take extra classes in a field which you aren't going to be qualified for anything?
-
Answer:
A minor is a specialty that you choose to supplement or complement your major field. For example, if you were thinking about studying international business (as your major), you might choose to minor in a foreign language so you could work in other countries. Or you might minor in history so that you have an understanding of how the world developed as it did. Or you might minor in political science so that you understand the different political systems that exist in the world.

An undergrad major doesn't necessarily "qualify" you either. Both are just indications that you have concentrated your studies in a specific academic field. _
