What is the significance of Gibbs free energy?

Simple gibbs free energy in phosphate groups?

  • when it says that a particular energy-rich phosphate group requires for example -17 delta-G and another one requires -40 delta-G which one has more energy in it of the two? i.e which one would produce more energy when it gets hydrolysed? thank you in advance

  • Answer:

-40 delta-G releases more energy when hydrolyzed. For example ATP has a more negative delta G when it is transformed directly into AMP as oppose to hydrolysis into ADP.. And the first reaction releases more energy then the 2 one.
