How long would 500MB of internet last on a mobile phone?

Approximately how much web use would 500MB give you?

  • I am contemplating getting a new mobile on a monthly contract and it offers 500 texts, 200 min's, and 500MB of Mobile Web use for only £12.99 per month. The problem is, I have literally no idea how much on average 500MB of Web use this would equate to on a daily basis. Could anyone give me some idea in really simple terms how long for example could I use the internet for without going over the limit please? I don't want to think I'm getting a good deal with paying £12.99 and end up paying double the amount if 500MB is not going to give me much use at all. I've only ever used PAYG and never had a monthly contract before so I don't want to think I'm getting a good deal when I'm not. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance! PS: By the way, the phone I'm thinking of is the Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus with Virginmobile.

  • Answer:

It's hard to give a constructive answer as "using the internet" means different things to different people. I'm on a 500mb tariff, and in 18 months I've never managed to use all my 500mb allowance, or even nearly use it.... but that's me I use my phone every day to check email, and visit websites. If I need to download apps or do app updates I wait until I get home and use my Wifi. What really eats up your data is video. If you're a big Youtube user you'll probably use the data in a few days, but for normal surfing you should be fine.
