Is 200% the same as twofold and 300% the same as threefold?

Should I get the Nikon 55-200 vr or the Nikon 55-300 vr?

  • The 55-300 is almost twice as much as the 55-200 and it will be quite a bit larger. However I don't know if the 55-300 will give me a lot more reach to get closer to subjects and I don't won't to regret buying the 55-200 and then having to buy the 55-300 later on, because the zoom wasn't far enough. Thank you for your help.

  • Answer:

Hi Paul, I would choose the 55-200mm Lens over the 55-300mm as the 18-55mm and the 55-200mm lenses share the same 52mm filter size. As this is a learning lens it allows you to invest in a few more filters like C-Pol filter to give you reduced glare in photos, ND Filters to slow down your lens for waterfall shots. The price difference between the two lenses is not alot, maybe $50-$100. So for a learning lens I recommend the 55-200mm. Also as a side note the Nikon 70-200mm 2.8 VRII is a very popular sport lens.
