How to change alternator in a 2001 mazda protoge lx 2.0?

• my alternator is overcharging and putting out 16v instead of 14 to 14.5, battery light is comming on when its wet out, and car acts up ( loses power when in overdrive, and locked up once in a while ) however just drove the car for approx 25 mins and it was driving normal now that its not raining or wet out and went in overdrive without locking up while driving, my belts are tight, is this an alternator problem? bought it new 5 months ago, and my battery seems to smell a bit now

  Go get a Haynes Repair manual from Autozone/online. If you order it online it will be cheaper...like 10 bucks. They have one for every type of car. The manual actually takes you through installation and removal of different things including the alternator. It also has descriptive pictures that will show you what to remove. Got one for my car and it was one of the best investments that I made.
