Things to do in Southern California during the summer?

My friends and I are looking for spooky things to do in Southern California this summer. Any recommendations?

  • Preferably something 'supernatural' or, yanno. Something that's gonna freak us all out.

  • Answer:

Tour a rendering plant, sausage factory or a slaughterhouse. Go watch a movie at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. They play everything from oldies to newer films. Maybe they will show The Exorcist, Friday the 13th or The Shining again. Go shopping at Skeletons In the Closet. It's the Los Angeles County Coroner gift shop. Go shopping at the Halloween Town Store in Burbank. Halloween 365 days a year. Necromance on Melrose is a cool place to buy a skeleton. The hallways in the Queen Mary remind me of the hotel hallways in The Shining. I always expect to see bloody twin girls at the end of them. You can take tours of infamous murder sites around LA, like Black Dahlia, Charles Manson or the Night Stalker. I think some of the Manson homes have been torn down because too many weirdos would show up.

Go on one of Scott Michael's "Dearly Departed" tours of infamous death/suicide/murder locations around L.A. www.dearlydepartedtours.com Visit the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. The cemetery is allegedly haunted by the spirits of Rudolph Valentino and several other celebrities who are buried/entombed there. www.hollywoodforever.com Stop by the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The famous hotel is allegedly haunted by the spirits of Montgomery Clift and Marilyn Monroe with Carole Lombard occasionally showing up. Ask to see Marilyn's mirror which supposedly (on occasion) reflects an eerie image of Marilyn as she looked when she lived in the hotel during the 1950s. www.hollywoodroosevelt.com Walk by the former Hollywood Knickerbocker Hotel which is now an apartment complex.(You can't go inside.) The building is called "the most haunted building in Hollywood". We lived in the Knickerbocker when I was a young girl during the 1950s and early 1960s, I can tell you----it IS haunted.
