How do you say "backpacking" in Spanish?

About how much money does one need to go backpacking through europe for lets say 6 months?

  • Answer:

It does depend on the style of traveling and how much you are willing to do without, and also the area you are traveling. Most of Europe is combined into the Schengen Zone, and a tourist from outside Europe mostly can only stay in the Schengen zone for 90 days in each 180 days. The rest of your 6 months you will have to stay outside the Schengen zone, and that can be in UK and Ireland, which are on the expensive side of the continent. On the other side of the Schengen area are a few countries that will allow you to stay for 3 months max too, on a visa or even just a stamp when you get in, and those countries are much cheaper to stay. Within the Schengen zone those differences also exist, if a bit more gradual. Most people who travel for one or two months use $US 100 per day, those who travel for 6 months spend no more than $50 per day, by eating peanut butter and beans on toast 6 days out of 7, and by not spending anything on sight seeing and entertainment. Yes you can travel longer that way, but I never found it worth it.
