How much money do i need to travel around europe for a month?

What do I need to travel through europe?

  • I'm trying to travel through Europe for a month, relying mostly on getting around by train. Would I need a train pass, and how much would it be? What can I expect from a hostel? How much money should I count on? I'm trying to spend as little as possible, but a reasonable amount. I'm a 23 year old girl, traveling alone. Any recommendations for that? Any help you can give is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!

You don't give your nationality and that matters a lot. Use this site to check entry requirements: http://www.skyteam.com/en/your-trip/Services/Visa-and-Health/ Check with your health insurance to find out if it covers you abroad. If yes then take proof of coverage with you. If no or not sure then get trip medical insurance, which is cheap and sold by airlines & travel agents. Please do not skimp on this as an otherwise-silly accident could turn into a crisis if you don't have medical insurance. This is a US government site, but the information is valid for anyone traveling away from their home country: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1470.html If you are a US citizen you can visit most of Europe without a visa as a tourist for up to 90 days out of 180. You need a valid passport and a return or onward airline ticket leaving the European Union. You apply for a passport at the post office: http://www.travel.state.gov/passport/get/first/first_830.html It usually takes about 6 weeks for your passport to arrive in the mail. You can reduce that to 2 weeks by paying a $60 fee plus paying for overnight postage both ways. http://www.travel.state.gov/passport/hurry/hurry_831.html Unless the extra $30 would be a problem then also get a passport card. The cards are only valid for crossing borders in North America (and then only by land or sea transport) but they make great daily ID when traveling. It lets you keep your regular passport tucked safely away. http://www.travel.state.gov/passport/ppt_card/ppt_card_3926.html You should also know where you will stay (hotel, whatever) so you can tell the Immigration Officer on arrival if they ask. Consider joining SERVAS, which will give you vetted local contacts in many places even if you don't choose to stay with a host: http://www.servas.org/ http://www.usservas.org/

Hopefully others can help with the trains but for your hostel needs I recommend http://www.hihostels.com Good and not expensive. Expect to pay between €25 and €30 per night. They have English speaking staff who can tell you about what's happening locally and the can make a reservation for you at your next port of call. You need to be aged 18 or over but there is no upper limit.

Make a budget plan and list down the things that you wanted to do when you get there. Also, if you are staying their for a month then you should bring more money. More than 1000 euros.
