Why does the truth hurt some people?

I've never been afraid of hearing the truth, usually because i already know the facts and have no shame in the person i am. In saying that i believe the truth only hurts those who's ego preceded their reputation, but what are some other reasons to help me understand why some get offended and prefer to wallow in their own self pity when faced with the truth?

Truth that you never want to know. Truth that flips over your reality. So here's an example: teen and his parents are well-living, nice to him, cool about everything, and later he finds out they were serial killers. What the sizzle nuts isn't it?

The truth always hurts and if you deny this, you're just deceiving yourself. Would you like someone to deconstruct you, to point out all of your flaws, what you are? There is nobody that is not hurt by this.
Where not all the same You and me we don't really care what people think but you see not everyone has that abillity you see some people are more sensative than others you see? Anyways i hoped this helped
