How is the life of a mechanical engineer in the Indian army?

I'm Indian but not a computer engineer or doctor...Am I normal? What should I do?

  • Indian people and Indian society can be quite narrow minded...In Indian culture, the thicker your wallet=The greater human being you are... I have dreams and I'm trying to be a filmmaker, but I don't think I can be accepted in Indian society completely during my struggle of achieving my goal... Only when I succeed will people look at me with open eyes...But until then I will remain lonely, my family will look down at me and I will get no woman in my life....Most Indian women love rich men and don't have the depth to look beyond the thickness of the wallet. They love getting expensive things...It's all about your reputation in society and not about genuine feelings for each other.... It's about living the "practical" life and being set, not bout taking a risk and achieving something truly extraordinary in the future....The problem is that I have a unique ambition, but my culture is too narrowminded and obsessed with "getting set" that I feel I will never get the support required....What should I do...The struggle will continue, but for the sake of peace of mind, what should I do? Thanks

I'm Pakistani/desi and totally know what you're talking about. My parents are doctors themselves so it's even tougher on me, although I am a girl... Most desi girls don't LOVE rich men. All women want security. Be smart. Pursue your dreams but have a back up plan. Study business or something as well so you can have a job or some cash flowing in when the filmmaking's not going so great... and it won't always. I'm doing journalism, a field where it's really hard to make a career, so I'm double majoring in a business kind of degree along with it so I have career security. If you become an engineer or doctor or comp sci person and hate it, you will be miserable and it will affect your work. Also, being a doctor you really have to have a knack for it unless you're doing research or something.... It's not easy at all and you don't make as much money as docs used to. And lastly... the culture of the Indian subcontinent needs to change with the thought processes of the new generation. Don't let the vicious cycle continue... We need to grow and expand.

Bollywood, go to Emerson or some filming college and work your way up. No offense but there are plenty of Indian doctors and pharmacists. Forget your culture and do what makes you happy, or be miserable in schooling and be in 100s of thousands of dollars in debt just to make "society and culture" happy.

You can achieve anything, if you want it. If your dream is to become a filmmaker, what has indian society got to do with it. Get off your a** and do something about it, instead of blaming others for your insecurities.

Go home and become a Brahmin or sit on the Ganges and help the funeral pyres. Its much more fulfilling than making Indian films that are all about money and success only filling the minds of poor people with sick values.
