How old do you have to be to work in the coal mines?

IS THERE ANYONE WORKING IN THE MINES THAT CAN SHARE THERE INSIGHT ON HOW IT IS TO WORK THERE?

  • I AM LOOKING AT MOVING TO PERTH AND WORKING IN THE MINES. TRYING TO GET SOME INSIGHT ON WORKING THERE AS HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC. 1. WHAT ARE THE WORKING CONDITIONS THERE? 2. DOES WORKING IN THE MINES GIVE YOU A GOOD LIFE AND LIFE STYLE? 3. DO THEY HAVE GOOD BENEFITS? 4. WHAT ARE TYPICAL WORK WEEKS LIKE? 5. DO THEY MAKE YOU PAY FOR YOU ROOM AND BOARD WHEN ON THE MINE SITE? I KNOW VERY LITTLE ABOUT LIVING AND WORKING IN AUSTRALIA AND THE ONLY INFO I FIND IS ON THE NET AND IS HARD TO UNDERSTAND BECAUSE IT IS ALL TECHNICAL INFO AND PERCENTAGES BASED OF THE POPULAR PLACES TO LIVE. I WAS OFFERED A JOB MAKING ABOUT $140000 I KNOW THEY WILL TAKE ABOUT $40000 RIGHT OF THE TOP FOR TAXES AND WHAT NOT. SO WITH THE REMAINING $100000 OR SO HOW WILL A PERSON SURVIVE, IS THIS A GOOD LIFE OR WILL IT BE A STRUGGLE AND THE LAST THING IS WHAT IS THE AVERAGE COST OF LIVING FOR A FAMILY OF 5 YOU KNOW RENT / MORTGAGE, UTILITY'S, GAS, CARS, INSURANCES, FOOD THE STUFF WE ALL HAVE TO PAY EVERY MONTH WEATHER WE WANT TO OR NOT.

My first thing is You only live once so make the most of it,..... i am speaking from a wife who's husband works in the mines we came over here from new zealand 4 1/2 years ago my husband does fifo= fly in fly out 4 weeks on 1 wk off you do get use to it WA is a little slower but i do say i like it that way 100,000 after tax is good starting, you can always get more depending on qualifications etc Conditions if your up north you have to be prepared to work in the heat, while wearing long pants long shirts, (use dripping by smoko) working in the mines means you can save money cause there is one less mouth to feed..... for the time you are away (the mines are what u make of them) Good benefits...... are you get o/t site allowance food accommodation and flights payed for average can be 4 and 1 2 and 2 2 and 1 depending on the trade you are looking at You need to think what are you earning at the moment is it over 2000 a week if it aint then just do it it will be the best decision you make...... There are so many support groups out there average cost rent wise 4 bed 2 bath 320-420ish gas 100-200 month I hope i have been of help Terri
