I'm not sure what type of exercises you are doing, but you will want to focus on strength and interval training. Bodyweight exercises are great for this. Then for your cardio you can do intervals (for instance run for 1 minute at a harder than normal pace, then 1 minute at a slower than normal/more comfortable pace). Alternate for 20 minutes or so. It doesn't have to be running, any cardio exercise will do. You'll reduce your risk of overuse injuries and you're body will burn more calories. The reason is b/c you'll be building muscle mass, which burns more calories than fat. Also make sure that you eliminate any liquid calories you're drinking. Lots of water and green tea are key here. Do that and you should have no problem dropping the weight quickly.

I am in almost the exact situation as you: 5'8" weighing about 140 pounds. I recently lost ten pounds, and the easiest way that I found to do this was to burst, or surge, exercise. This means you do a certain exercise (it could be jumping jacks, sit ups, lunges, squats, pretty much anything) for a short period of time, rest, and then do it again. For example, you could do lunges with one leg for twenty seconds, rest twenty seconds, then do some with the other leg for twenty seconds. Everyone out there today tells you that exercising for long periods of time will help you lose weight, when this does a lot less than people think, and it only increases your stress level. The best and easiest way to lose weight is to surge. The exercise DVD I use only has you exercise for 12 minutes a day, so it's perfect if you're short on time.
