  1. Read the summary/results section first, if there is one. 2. Don't use a dictionary while reading, just ignore words you don't know. 3. Figure out what the topic sentences mean before reading each paragraph-that will let you focus in on the main points more quickly. 4. Skim and get the jist-don't waste time reading examples of concepts if you already understand the concept, and skip digressions, exceptions, long and unnecessary explanations, etc. 5. Focus in on the writer's thesis statement and write it down or underline it. That way you can focus in on the main point instead of getting bogged down by lots of insignificant details that don't matter. 6. Sometimes there's a shorter version of the same article, written earlier. Find that and you can save even more time. 7. Do research online about the concept being discussed in the thesis statement. Once you understand the concept, the reading will become much easier and will go much quicker. 8. If necessary, ask your professor what the article is basically about. 9. If an article becomes very confusing or otherwise hard to read mid-way, do something else and come back to it later. You may need a refresher. 10. Make sure that you understand the key words and ideas in the article. Any that you don't understand, ask your professor about.
