Cal poly pomona vs uc davis?

  • ok so i got into both schools and i already committed to davis. buttt im having second thoughts! i want to be a civil engineer so which school would be better for that? and is it hard to change majors at pomona?

    For engineering and architecture: Cal Poly Pomona. For sciences and business: UC Davis For agriculture: TIE Cal Poly Pomona is between LA, OC, and IE, meaning you get tons of internship/co-op opportunities as opposed to UC Davis and the Sacramento area. Engineering companies in LA and neighboring areas that recruit at Cal Poly Pomona: BP, Chevron, Jacobs, Fluor, Technip, Valero, Southern California Edison, Southern California Gas Company, etc, etc, etc, IMO, UC's are far too theoretical

I'm just going to be honest. think about it. A UC vs. a Cal State. I would for sure go with UC Davis for the name. but if that doesnt bother you, ask your high school counselor which one is better for civil engineer. but both would work

I would say Pomona. Sure, its not as good as SLO, but it does have a pretty strong engineering school. Davis is not bad, but its just not really known for civil engineering.

Davis no question. If it was Cal Poly SLO, I would say go there but Pomona is not nearly as prestigious as SLO or Davis.

They are both good schools. UC Davis is more of an agri school while Cal Poly Pomona is more of an engineering school. As for Cal Poly Pomona, it's civil engineering is consistently ranked a top 10 by US News. Not as good as SLO, but still pretty good. It's very hands on, so you'll always see civil engineering students working on projects around campus such as surveying hills, building bridges and concrete canoes. UCs are more for in the classroom learning. That difference in teaching approach might be your deciding factor.
